A shard of glass became lodged in a woman's eye after an incident at a bar near Nelson early this morning.
A group of people were kicked out of the Star and Garter Tavern in Richmond around 3am, and shortly afterwards a member of that group threw a glass object back into the smoking area of the tavern, police said.
The glass shattered, and a shard lodged in the eye of a woman who was seated in the area. She sustained serious injuries to her eye and was undergoing surgery at Nelson Hospital.
The group of people involved in the incident are yet to be identified, and police have asked for the public's help.
Police said they would like to speak to members of the group who were asked to leave the bar, including the person who threw the glass object.
