The form book says Gladstone should beat Marist in their Wairarapa-Bush premier division rugby plate grand final at Memorial Park tomorrow. Both of their preliminary round clashes were very much one-way traffic, Gladstone winning the first 42-10 and the second 36-15.
It was their forwards who laid the foundations for Gladstone's victory on each occasion and they will again look to blunt the effectiveness of the Marist backs by again being dominant up front.
There is no doubt, however, that if Marist do manage to obtain enough quality ball to give their rearguard the chance to demonstrate their attacking skills the lifting of the Hodder Steffert Cup is not beyond their capabilities.
The senior reserve competition grand final sees Eketahuna and Carterton pitted against each other with both teams having secured upset wins in their semi-final encounters.
Eketahuna revolve their game around their forwards and the result is likely to depend on what sort of dominance - if any - they can attain up front.
Clashing in the senior reserves plate final are Greytown and East Coast and past results would suggest an even contest there.
Start times on grand finals day at Memorial Park are: Senior reserves plate (President's Cup), No 2 ground at 12.30pm; senior reserves grand final (Ryan Cup), No 1 ground at 11am; premier division plate final (Hodder Steffert Cup), No 1 ground at 1pm; premier division grand final (Tui Cup), No 1 ground at 3pm.
