A Gisborne surgeon who is the subject of investigation by the Health and Disability Commissioner and the NZ Medical Council has resigned.
Tairawhiti District Health chief executive Jim Green said today he had accepted Klaus Platz's resignation.
Mr Platz was recently stood down from clinical duties within the organisation pending the outcome of investigations into a number of complaints.
Mr Green said the stand-down was a "standard, prudent response" from the DHB, and added that he believed due process should be allowed to continue.
TV One reported last week that 10 people had formally complained to the Health and Disability Commissioner about the German-born surgeon. The daughter of an elderly man who died after surgery said people should have been told about the number of complaints against Mr Platz.
