KEY POINTS:
A schoolyard assault by three teenage girls has left a girl with a fractured eye socket and broken nose, police say.
The 15-year-old victim was taken to Waikato Hospital yesterday after being set upon by a trio of students at Hamilton Girls High School.
Hamilton City area commander Inspector Rob Lindsay said the assault happened at the school just before 3pm.
The three assailants, aged 15 to 16, allegedly kicked and punched the fourth girl, leaving her with a broken nose, fractured eye socket and cuts and bruising to her head.
Two have been suspended from school.
School principal Mary-Ann Baxter said she was appalled by the attack and still considering whether to suspend the third student.
Such behaviour was intolerable and had no place in her school, Ms Baxter said.
Mr Lindsay described the reported behaviour as "totally unacceptable".
"Parents, caregivers and students themselves have every right to feel safe anywhere in our community," said Mr Lindsay.
The three accused attackers have been charged with wounding with intent to injure and will appear in Youth Court.
