Wairarapa athletes took the first five placings in the 200m and 400m finals of the girls' 16-year-old events on the second day of the Wellington track and field championships at Newtown Park during the weekend.
First home over 200m was Laura McKenna in 26.57s, followed by Stevie Paine (26.74s), Sian Chapman (27.21s), Mikayla Pearson (27.57s) and Molly Creagh (28.24s).
Calling the tune in the 400m was Paine who clocked 1m, 0.31s in heading off Creagh (1m, 2.91s), Pearson (1m, 4.16s), Chapman (1m, 5.2s) and McKenna (1m, 5.89s).
There was also a strong Wairarapa representation in the final of the 16-year-old boys' 200m, with Joel Farley placing fourth in 23.98s, Dhruv Raman fifth in 24.48s, Edward Hewitt sixth in 24.57s, Tom Quinn seventh in 24.76s and Kurtis Paine eighth in 25.29s.
In the 16-year-old boys' 400m final it was Quinn who prevailed in 53.19s, followed in order by Hewitt (55.11s), Farley (55.43s), Raman (56.52s) and Bevan Brown (56.88s).
George Hewitt of Wairarapa won the AWD (athletes with disability) 200m in 43.77s and the 400m in 1m, 40.95s.
Both under-19 discus titles went to Wairarapa, Courtnay Fafeita winning the women's in 40.38m and Josh Greig the men's in 34.94m.
Three Wairarapa throwers competed at the Porritt Classic in Hamilton with Tim Girling-Mclean placing fifth in the shot put with a put of 14.06m and Jerry Peseta in 13th with 12.89m.
In the discus, Jerry Peseta was 14th with a throw of 37.11m, Girling-McLean 15th with 36.59m and Dennis Peseta 17th with 28.71m.
