Waikato police are investigating the robbery of a set of car keys and cellphone from two girls in a Ngaruawahia street.
Senior Sergeant Ray Malcolmson said the girls were in Kiatoa St at about 11.45pm when they were approached by three men.
They were assaulted before having their keys and cellphone taken off them. The police dog team searched the area but those involved are yet to be spoken to.
It was unclear what the assault involved, he said, but CIB staff would this morning look into what happened.
A Ngaruawahia resident posted her disgust about the incident on Facebook.
