A teenage girl was taken to hospital in a moderate condition after allegedly being raped in the toilets at Burger King, Takapuna, on Sunday evening.
Police were called to the restaurant at 6.30 after the 14-year-old was found intoxicated and said she had been raped.
Friends said she was "all over the place" when she came outside from the restaurant, which is across the road from the Takapuna police station.
They said the girl was saying she had been made to drink cask wine with a group of five boys in the male toilets and that she had been raped and forced to perform sexual acts.
A St John spokesman said the girl was taken from Burger King to the Starship hospital in a moderate condition.
Burger King closed early after the alleged incident and the area leading to the toilets was cordoned off.
The restaurant remained closed yesterday as a team of detectives examined the scene.
Detective Sergeant Kim Libby, who is heading the inquiry, said police were questioning several men aged 18 to 20 who were allegedly involved in the incident. Detectives were also interviewing the girl.
"Once our preliminary investigations have been completed, a decision will then be made on any appropriate charges," said Mr Libby.
Burger King general manager Glenn Corbett said he knew very few details of what happened but was co-operating fully with the police.
"We remain seriously concerned about whatever has happened and are trying to find out more.
"Our customer care is our number one priority," he said. "Burger King's first and foremost priority is always that all its customers enjoy their visit with us."
