KEY POINTS:
A 16-year-old girl is recovering at home after an overnight sexual attack outside public toilets in Gisborne.
Detective Sergeant Theo Akroyd said the girl had been attacked outside toilets near the marina just off Ormond Rd about 3am.
Police had "a line of inquiry that we're following and hopefully we'll make an arrest out of it".
The girl had been able to fight off her attack and alert police.
The suspect, who was older than the girl, had yet to be found.
The girl had sustained minor injuries but was now home and "coping okay", Mr Akroyd said.
No witnesses had come forward.
