KEY POINTS:
The teenage girl who told police she had been raped in Morrinsville by three fat men 10 days ago was lying, police said today.
They said the 16-year-old would be referred to the police youth aid section but would not comment on what charges she might face.
She told police she was walking along Page Street in Morrinsville about 4am on August 5 when she was forced into a dark-coloured station wagon by three men.
She said she was raped by all three. She described them as fat caucasians in their 20s, one with a moustache and beard.
Waikato police spokesman Andrew McAlley said her allegation had been discounted after she was interviewed again.
"The investigation team interviewed her and they were able to come to that conclusion.
"There are no three fat guys, one with a beard, floating around in a stationwagon attacking young maidens in Morrinsville," he said.
She had earlier told police she had been drinking at her home before walking down the road with two friends.
She said she had left her friends and was returning home when the alleged incident happened.
