A teenage girl stabbed a man at least five times then walked away laughing, Hastings District Court was told yesterday.
The man, from India, was rushed to hospital, underwent surgery and fled back to India, meaning police have been be unable to produce a victim impact report.
Prosecutor Sergeant Dean Goodall said 17-year-old Maxine Frances Tapuke, of Hastings, told police: "He was lying. I wanted to teach him a lesson."
Tapuke pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was remanded to appear in Napier District Court on July 10 for sentence.
The victim was a passenger in a car Tapuke flagged down to get a ride to visit her boyfriend after she left a party on April 12, police said.
He went to the door of the house with her, but her partner struck him with a pair of lopping shears.
Mr Goodall said Tapuke kicked the victim several times before stabbing him four times in one shoulder, once in the ribs and once in a hand, using a steak knife she took from her partner's kitchen.
Wounds included a punctured lung.
Residents alerted by the noise saw Tapuke and her partner walking away laughing from the man as he lay in the street.
The victim suffered nerve damage to his left arm, and similar damage and loss of sensation in his right hand, Mr Goodall said.
