A 16-year-old girl has been hospitalised after the horse she was riding stood on her face in the East Cape.
The Tauranga based TrustPower TECT rescue helicopter was called to the remote Waikura Station inland of Hicks Bay yesterday afternoon.
A rescue helicopter spokesperson said the Opotiki girl was taking part in a riding hunt when she fell from her horse, which then stood on her causing serious injuries to her face.
St John ambulance staff from Waihau Bay helped the girl until the rescue helicopter flew her to Tauranga hospital.
