A six-year-old girl is in Child Youth and Family (CYF) care after her stepfather was arrested for drink driving near Rangiriri, north of Huntly, last night.
The man's driving caused motorists to report his antics to police. He was stopped by police who found he was disqualified from driving and he refused a blood test.
He was arrested and the girl who was in the car with him was placed in CYF care, the Waikato Times reported.
Acting Senior Sergeant Roderick Smart, of Hamilton police, said the driver, a 41-year-old from Taumarunui, "had six prior convictions for disqualified driving, four for drink-driving offences, and three for driving unlicensed or while forbidden."
