A 6-year-old girl is in Child, Youth and Family (CYF) care after her stepfather was arrested for drink driving near Rangiriri, north of Huntly, on Monday night.
The man's driving caused motorists to report his antics to police, who stopped him. They found the Taumarunui 41-year-old, who refused a blood test, was disqualified from driving.
He was arrested and the girl, who was in the car with him, was placed in CYF care, the Waikato Times reported. Acting Senior Sergeant Roderick Smart of Hamilton said the driver "had six prior convictions for disqualified driving, four for drink-driving offences and three for driving unlicensed or while forbidden".
