An eight-year-old girl is in hospital after being attacked by a rottweiler dog in Dunedin last night.
The girl was playing with a group of children in Manchester St in Bradford just before 5.30pm when the dog from a neighbouring house attacked her, latching on to her arm, Senior Sergeant Craig Brown told the Otago Daily Times.
"It then had a go at her other arm, and she sustained substantial lacerations to both arms," Mr Brown said.
The girl was taken to Dunedin Hospital by a family member and was in a stable condition.
The dog was removed by a Dunedin City Council animal control officer. Inquiries were continuing into why the dog attacked, Mr Brown said.
