Girl hit on pedestrian crossing

An 11-year-old girl is in hospital with a broken leg and serious head injuries after a hit-and-run accident on Kaurilands Rd last night.

Henderson police said a car struck the girl on a pedestrian crossing and continued driving.

Police arrested a 55-year-old man at a nearby address.

He is due to appear in Waitakere District Court today on driving charges, including failing to stop and ascertain injury.

The girl was taken to Starship Hospital.
