Dunedin Police have launched an investigation following an alleged sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl.
The incident happened between 7 and 8pm last night on the corner of Kirkcaldy street and Bayview Road in the city's south.
The victim was walking to meet her mother a short distance away when she was dragged into a carport and assaulted by a man.
Detective Sergeant Brett Roberts said the girl struggled with her attacker and managed to get away.
He's described as being in his late teens, with a whispy beard and wearing dark clothing.
