Girl dies in Papatoetoe house fire

UPDATE - An eight-year-old girl was killed and a ten-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a house fire in south Auckland this morning.

Police said in a statement that emergency services were called to the fire at an address on East Tamaki Rd, Papatoetoe about 7.30am.

Firefighters and ambulance staff were unable to save the eight-year-old girl died, who died at the scene.

Other family members were taken to Middlemore Hospital with serious injuries.

Police later said a 10-year-old boy was in a critical condition, while a 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman remained in a serious condition.
