A young girl was airlifted to Waikato Hospital yesterday after hitting her head in a fall from a jungle gym at Hinuera School near Matamata.
School principal Dean McDonnell said it appeared the nine-year-old was sitting on a bar 1.02m above the ground, chatting to friends, when she over-balanced and fell backwards at about 1pm.
Mr McDonnell said she was flown to hospital by the Westpac Rescue helicopter as a precaution but her father, who accompanied her, reported late yesterday that doctors seemed confident of "a good result" for the girl's recovery.
Although the school's senior playground had passed a safety check as recently as Wednesday, it had been closed until an investigation into the mishap could be completed.
