KEY POINTS:
Police today named a 7-year-old girl killed when a people-mover she was travelling in with her family crashed and rolled up to 100m.
She was Debbie Moale, from Napier.
Debbie was killed when the van she was travelling in lost control at a bend on State Highway 50, about 12km north of Tikokino in Hawkes Bay at about 5.20pm yesterday.
Police spokeswoman Kris McGehan said the road was wet and there had been a light rain earlier that day.
The people-mover crashed through a boundary fence, rolling 80 to 100 metres and coming to rest at the bottom of a gully.
Debbie was thrown from the vehicle, and police are investigating whether she was wearing a seatbelt.
Her six other family members in the vehicle with her were taken to Hawkes Bay Hospital with serious injuries, though none were in a life-threatening condition.
The van stayed at the bottom of the gully overnight and police investigations would continue today.
