KEY POINTS:
A 16-year-old pedestrian is in critical condition after a hit and run in Mt Maunganui early this morning.
Senior Sergeant Ian Campion of Greerton police said the girl was struck by a car on Marine Parade at 4.20am.
The vehicle failed to stop and left the girl, from Ngaruawahia, lying on the road with serious injuries.
A short time later a police patrol found the vehicle parked in a nearby side street.
Senior Sergeant Ian Harris said police were currently interviewing people who were in the vehicle but it was too early to say what charges would be laid.
