Girl, 14, lured into brothel, court told

Two Wellington brothel keepers used drugs to lure a 14-year-old schoolgirl into their employ where she was forced to have sex with up to four men a day, a court was told today.

The trial of Gary John Duffin and Sharyn Hills continued in the High Court at Wellington with the complainant continuing her accounts of how the couple drugged, sexually violated and forced her to work in her school uniform as a prostitute in 1991.

The court heard Duffin, father of 13-year-old Karla Cardno who was raped, tortured and murdered in 1989, and Hills met the girl through a relative then fed her cannabis and valium and lured her into prostitution.

"I had no idea what was going on actually. Four men in one day..." said the witness, who broke down during her evidence.

Duffin and Hills each face a total of 10 charges of supplying cannabis to two teenage girls and a teenage boy.

They also face four joint charges of sexual violating the 14-year-old girl in 1991, in a Wellington hotel.

Duffin faces an additional charge of sexual violation for a later incident at his Mt Victoria brothel, when he touched and simulated sex with the girl before leaving her to observe a prostitute having sex with a client.
