A ten-year-old East Coast girl is in hospital after being crushed by a boulder.
She was playing at some boulders near Te Puia Springs when she lost her footing and fell down a five metre bank.
The 40 kilogram boulder then fell on top of her. Bystanders were able to free her.
She is now at Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland with internal and other injuries.
