The McAuleys Transport Giants women's softball team turned on a powerful batting display to beat Hutt City United 24-2 in their Hutt Valley major B competition match at Fraser Park on Saturday.
The game lasted just three innings, with Giants putting their opposition's pitching to the sword. Two of the best in the batting department were Ashleigh Edmonds and Makaylah Julian, while pitchers Keely Riwai-Couch and Deb Julian also did a superb job for Giants, who have won two from two to be at the top of the table.
Giants and Demons were involved in an exciting Inter-City premier two men's fixture at Maidstone Park with Demons taking the honours 6-4. Michael McDermott hit an in-the-park home run for Giants and highlighting a solid fielding effort was a spectacular out by Justin Fricker.
It was all one-way traffic in the Hutt Valley President's grade match between Giants and Demons, also at Maidstone Park, with Giants winning 19-0 in three innings. Terry Waitere struck a home run for Giants, who were also well served by pitchers Justin Karaitiana and Ray Stratford.
In the Hutt Valley under-13 competition Giants came up with an impressive 10-4 win over Te Aroha. Jaden Calkin was their top batter and others to shine were catcher Trey Feary, Logan Tubman and Alex Waitere.
