Giants are desperate for revenge as they prepare for their Inter-City series top six men's softball match with Hutt City at Fraser Park, Avalon tomorrow.
Hutt City scored two handsome wins over Giants prior to the Christmas break and coach Tony Nixon says they are intent on putting the record straight this time round.
"They (Hutt City) are a very good all-round side, they don't have any real weaknesses," Nixon said. "But they are beatable, no doubt about that."
Nixon said Giants had taken confidence from their first two top six playoff games against Porirua United and Miramar, the two sides who are disputing favouritism for the Inter-City title.
On each occasion Giants lost by just the one run and, with an ounce or two of luck, may actually have come out on top.
"Obviously it would be nice to have a win under our belts but we have been playing well, that's the important thing," Nixon said. "We have proved we can foot it with the best of them, the confidence is good."
Making victory for Giants vital tomorrow is that another loss would make it more difficult for them to qualify for the Inter-City semi-finals, which has been one of their prime objectives for this season. They would then have to beat both Kapiti and Cardinals in their last two top six matches no easy assignment.
"It's not an absolute must win but it's close to it," Nixon said of tomorrow's match. "We need to get points on the board and this is a good chance to do it."
Helping the Giants cause is the fact they will be at full strength and Nixon said one word, consistency, would very probably decide their fate.
"Batting, pitching, fielding & consistency is the key," he said.
