Giants are pushing for a replay of their Inter City series premier two women's softball match with Naenae at Fraser Park last Saturday.
A thrilling encounter saw Naenae ahead 17-15 with both teams having one turn left at bat but they were denied what would have been their seventh innings when the umpires decided to call it a day.
Initial thoughts were that the wet weather had prompted their decision.
But later inquiries indicated that the umpire of a premier one women's match to be played next on the same diamond had intervened, apparently on the basis that the scheduled start time of their fixture had been delayed long enough.
"Whatever the reason, the game should not have been called off early," Giants spokesman Ritchie Clarke said, adding that Giants had issued a formal protest with the organisers of the Inter City competitions and asked that the match be replayed.
"There was still a good chance our team could pull it off and we believe it unfair they weren't given that opportunity."
The Giants premier two women's team were looking to conserve an unbeaten record, having won both their previous Inter City games.
Meanwhile, the Giants premier men's team faces a hectic three days, being drawn to play Dodgers and Hutt Valley Marist in the first of their Hutt Valley competition matches at Fraser Park tonight.
They will then face Hutt Valley Marist again on Saturday, this time at home in an Inter City encounter.
Clarke said Giants would be at full strength for all three games and were confident of building on the improved form they showed in their 5-0 Inter City win over Wainuiomata last weekend.
The men's Inter City points table is: Miramar 8, Poneke-Kilbirnie 8, Dodgers 6, Porirua City United 6, Giants 4, Cardinals 4, Johnsonville 2, Wainuiomata 2, Hutt Valley Marist 0.
