Giants are expecting a stern challenge from Hutt City United Bedrocks in their Hutt Valley President's grade softball match to be played at South Park, Masterton, tomorrow, starting at 1pm.
Results between the two have gone about 50-50 in recent seasons and while Giants president Allan Clarke is confident his side will have the edge this time, he expects Bedrocks to keep them honest. "They [Bedrocks] are a well-balanced team, we can't afford to take anything for granted," Clarke said.
The absence of star pitcher Tony Nixon, who has another commitment, is a big blow to Giants, but Clarke is satisfied Ray Stratford will prove a more than adequate replacement.
The Giants under-15s are also at home tomorrow. They confront Totara Park at 10.30am and will be looking to build on the good impression they made in winning their opening game last weekend. The under-13s play over the hill while the under-18s have the bye, meaning they won't get to kick off their 2011-12 season until next weekend, providing the weather is kind to them.
