Cross Country Rentals Giants men's softball coach Tony Nixon says his team is "pretty frustrated" at having to travel to Fraser Park, Avalon tomorrow night for matches against Cardinals and Dodgers in the Hutt Valley premier league.
Nixon said midweek games were anything but ideal for his Masterton-based side because it meant they had little, or no, time to get themselves in competitive mode once arriving at the venue.
"It does put us on the back foot but unfortunately there's not a lot we can do about it," Nixon said.
"They make up the draw and we have to go along with it."
Giants won the Hutt Valley title last season and made a good start to their defence of it when they edged out Hutt Valley Marist in their opening game last weekend.
But the bulk of their appearances this season have been in the Inter-City series where they lead the points table with five wins from six matches.
Giants and Cardinals have had some stirring battles in recent seasons and Nixon is anticipating nothing different tomorrow night. He said the two teams had similar strengths and it would be a matter of who performed better on the night.
"We can't afford to have any lapses of concentration, we have to keep the focus all the way through", he said.
Dodgers are also a useful side but Giants have amassed a good record against them and they will be expected to continue that on this occasion.
Nixon is optimistic Giants will have all their players on deck for the two games although there was always the chance work commitments could lead to late withdrawals.
"That's another hassle with midweek matches, they can be hard on both players and employers," he said.
