Cross Country Rentals Giants pitcher Ritchie Clarke doesn't beat around the bush when asked whether his side are capable of toppling star-studded Miramar in their Inter City series men's softball match at the polo grounds in Miramar tomorrow.
"If all the variables fall into place we can do it, if they don't then we will come second," is Clarke's typically frank summation of his team's prospects.
Clarke puts himself at the very top of the variable list as he knows that Miramar, who have established a clear lead on the points table, have enormous depth in their batting department and that it will take a "once in a lifetime" pitching effort to keep them under wraps for a full seven innings.
"Yep, the pressure is on me to come up with something special," Clarke said. The other major concern for Giants is their own batting effort. They face a Miramar side with four current or past Black Sox pitchers to call on.
"It's all about playing smart, not letting them intimidate us. If we stay patient and make good judgement calls you never know what might happen. A win is not right out of the question."
