Giants pitcher Ritchie Clarke places his team's Inter-City series men's softball match against Wainuiomata at South Park, Masterton, tomorrow in the "must win" category.
Having lost their last three matches in succession and scoring just the two runs in the process, Giants are in desperate need of success and, while he has plenty of respect for the youthful Wainuiomata combination, Clarke says anything less than victory won't be acceptable.
"We need to get things back on track and this has to be the starting point in that respect," he said.
"If we don't win, maybe we should all start looking at playing lawn bowls."
Not surprisingly, Clarke sees their batting as being the department in which Giants require the most improvement.
Too often batters were getting themselves out through a lack of patience which led to them trying to hit the ball out of the park, when a more cautious approach could pay better dividends.
"We have the potential to be a good batting unit and it's about time we began living up to it," he said.
Tomorrow's premier men's match at South Park gets under way at 3pm and will be preceded by three other fixtures involving Giants teams.
The under-15s will play Totara Park at 10.30am, the major B women meet Cardinals at 1pm and the vets also play Cardinals at 1pm.
Three Giants teams yet to taste defeat this season are playing away from home at Fraser Park in Hutt Valley. The under-18s meet Hutt City United at 8pm tonight, the under-13s play Cardinals tomorrow at 10.30am and the premier two women play Newlands tomorrow at 1.15pm.
