Giants coach Tony Nixon is still trying to figure why his team is on a four-game losing streak which has seen them blow any chance of winning either the Hutt Valley premier division or Inter-City series men's softball competitions this season.
Nixon says losses to Cardinal in the Hutt Valley-semi-finals and Hutt City United, Poneke-Kilbirnie and Miramar in the Inter-City top six playoffs were "very definitely" not a case of Giants lacking anything on the score of commitment.
"Honestly, the boys have been trying just as hard as they ever have but things aren't happening for us," he said. " I guess you could say we are in a rut and we have to get ourselves out of it."
Nixon said Saturday's defeats by Poneke-Kilbirnie (1-9) and Miramar (1-5) were contrasting affairs.
P-K had simply turned on a powerhouse batting display to which Giants had no answer - although Corie Karaitiana did manage a home run for Giants - but the contest with Miramar was an even one and the result could have gone either way.
Next up for Giants is the national inter-club championships which get under way in about a week's time and Nixon is optimistic that some "meaningful discussions" between now and then will see them back to their best form.
"We are certainly not in panic mode, we have proved we can compete against the very best clubs over the past couple of seasons and there is no reason why that shouldn't happen again,' he said."We'll just go back to basics at training and ensure we are doing the simple things well, get that right and I'm sure the wins will start to come again."
