The Giants kick off their Inter-City series men's softball campaign with a "winnable" match against Cardinals at South Park, Masterton, today.
A depleted Giants line-up failed to secure a victory at the Kapiti Classic tourney last weekend but pitcher Richard Clarke is confident a full-strength squad will be more competitive today.
"Most of us have had enough match time now to be hitting our straps, so there won't be any excuses if we don't fire up," Clarke said.
Cardinals were invariably a tough team to bowl and today's game, which starts at 1pm, was unlikely to be any exception.
"It's the old story at this level, if you play well you are always a chance to get a win and if you play badly you are likely to be on the end of a decent beating," Clarke said. "It's a winnable game for us if everything goes according to plan, and that's how we will be approaching it."
The Giants under-15 boys team have won their Hutt Valley competition match against Te Aroha by default.
