Whisky and gin are not the only spirits present in a Hawke's Bay pub.
Staff say that a ghost is haunting the Brazenhead Irish Ale & Coffee House in Napier.
Bar manager Lloyd Larkin said he had seen unusual images in the pokie room. He had felt a presence peering over him and seen a flash going past him.
Owner Tony Lehmann said he's heard creaking doors and a mop bucket going up and down the hallway during the night. But when he went to investigate nothing was there.
"I'm not a big believer but when start to put all these stories together...I'm tempted to sleep here more often to try to get to the bottom of it," he told Hawke's Bay Today.
He stressed it was not a PR stunt.
Staff had kept their spooky experience to themselves until they started to mount up like bodies in a graveyard. Other staff members said the ghost was a big burly man who died nearby after he was skewered by a falling beam during the Napier earthquake.
But he was a friendly ghost there to protect not to frighten, they told the paper.
