KEY POINTS:
Q: At the Esmonde Rd interchange, is there going to be access for southbound traffic coming from Akoranga Drive? This seems to be the only thing missing here. It means traffic from AUT and the business parks must go down to Fred Thomas Drive and then do a u-turn to gain access to the motorway. Terry Kelso, North Shore.
A: Transit says there are no plans for another onramp here. Akoranga traffic should use Onewa and Northcote interchanges to head south. Other options are to walk, cycle or catch the bus once the Northern Busway opens in February. Creating another ramp here heading south would make all the other movements inefficient and slow traffic.
Q: More than a few are confused by a road sign at the Tristram Rd overpass heading towards Forrest Hill Rd. It says "centre lane traffic turn right". Which lane does this refer to - the middle lane of the three available or the far right lane? Those of us who believe it means the middle lane are being cut off by people who believe the middle lane is a feeder for Forrest Hill Rd. Mary Jane Smith, Forrest Hill.
A: This sign was put up as part of the temporary traffic arrangements while the Northern Busway is being built. The length of the merge travelling east was reduced to make room for a construction area on the north side of the road. This should be finished in the next couple of weeks, and traffic in the middle lane (lane two) will be able to turn right or go straight ahead just as it did before.
Q: I daily drive through the set of traffic lights outside St Kentigern College on Pakuranga Rd. Of late these turn red for the main traffic flow on Pakuranga Rd almost every two minutes, despite the fact that no traffic enters or exits the college. This is happening late at night, and seems to have been introduced during the school holidays, when no one is going to be going to the school anyway. What's happening here? Farhad Colah, and others.
A: The detectors that make the lights work were damaged during roadworks and so the signals change when there is nothing to trigger them. Woops. The good news is that the work should be finished this week and all will be back to normal very soon.
