KEY POINTS:
As a user of the public bus system, I am a firm believer in bus lanes. However, I do wonder about the design of some of them. In Khyber Pass Rd, heading towards Newmarket, the bus lane is interrupted by four car-park spaces outside the Cock and Bull bar. This means that a bus must pull out into the one remaining lane to get past. Could these car parks be made no-parking spaces for the period of time the bus lane operates further up Khyber Pass Rd?
Bill Lehmann, Auckland.
The council thanks you for bringing this to its attention, Bill, and it will be looking at it as part of a general review of bus priorities in the Newmarket area.
I have always thought that while a green arrow at the traffic lights meant right-of-way, a red arrow was a reminder that there is no right-of-way but one could turn if there was no oncoming traffic. Is this correct?
John Lambert, Blockhouse Bay.
No it's not. Red means stop, whether it is an arrow or a full traffic light. A green arrow means you can go in the direction the arrow points if it is safe, and a red arrow means you must stop if you are travelling in the direction the arrow is pointing.
What is going to happen to the now-disused Nelson St offramp from State Highway 1?
Jason Hewitt, Auckland.
It will stay as an emergency vehicle access. Transit says it would be difficult and very costly to demolish.
Is there an accurate detailed map of the proposed Northern Busway? I can't figure out on which side the buses will travel between Esmonde and Onewa Rds.
Ross McMillan, North Shore.
Between Esmonde and Onewa there will only be southbound buses on the busway, which is on the eastern side of the motorway. From Onewa the buses will join the main lanes. The best map I could find is at www.busway.co.nz
