Get in tune with the real Christmas

The combined churches of Carterton are hosting a night of song and family entertainment at Carrington Park in the town from 7pm this Saturday.

The combined churches of Carterton are hosting a night of song and family entertainment in the park this Saturday.

Activities begin at 7pm with a free sausage sizzle, a lolly scramble, a light-hearted Christmas play and music all lined up as part of the festivities.

Organiser Reverend Lorna Clarke said the combined churches wanted to encourage Carterton families to come together.

"We decided that we wanted to enhance it this year and just do something a little bit different."

The churches wanted to provide the free event as a gift to the community, Mrs Clarke said.

Members from the combined churches will be singing well-loved, upbeat carols.

The play features a donkey and sheep which children can pat after the performance.

The event is centred around the band rotunda and people are encouraged to bring their own rugs and chairs. The event is replacing the carols in Memorial Square held in previous years.
