KEY POINTS:
Police search and rescue are looking for two German trampers in the Cobb Valley, near Nelson after they failed to show-up on a designated day.
The couple in their twenties were supposed to walk out of the valley two days ago, after a five day tramp, but their vehicle has not moved, said Sergeant Steve Savage.
He said there has been a lot of snow in the area in the last two weeks.
"We had a search and rescue in there last week, only last Monday. They were overdue too but were fine," Mr Savage said.
He said a ground team are on the track and a helicopter will check the huts later this afternoon, if weather permits.
"Some hunters have told us that they have plenty of food and plenty of warm gear but we don't know how long that will last," Mr Savage said.
He said there has been rain in the area and the snow will be melting but flooding should not be a problem.
