Health manager Tai Gemmell has resigned from health provider Te Hauora O Runanga Wairarapa, a close family member says.
Mr Gemmell, 46, was convicted of drink-driving for the fifth time almost a month ago in Masterton District Court.
He already had four convictions when he was employed by Te Hauora, which specialises in alcohol and drug counselling, and mental health and disability services.
Mr Gemmell had offered his resignation to the Te Hauora board after he was charged but chairwoman Angie Pourau did not accept it and supported his continued employment.
A Wairarapa District Health Board spokeswoman said she understood the board would release a public statement next week.
