More than 100 genetic engineering research projects have been found to have gone ahead without proper approval.
The Environmental Risk Managemenet Authority has now surveyed all institutions involved in genetic research, says chief exectuvie Dr Bas Walker.
While 113 instances of unauthorised work were found, most of them were technical changes that went beyond the bounds of the original approval of the experiment.
