A rainbow gay pride flag has been raised on the grounds of Parliament for the first time to mark a milestone in social equality legislation.

Labour deputy leader Grant Robertson tweeted a photo of the flagstaff saying: "Something very special about to happen at Parliament to mark 30 years since Homosexual Law Reform."
