KEY POINTS:
Exams are underway at Massey University's Manawatu campus, despite a serious outbreak of gastroenteritis.
Yesterday, around 90 students were treated at the university's medical clinic.
But today, regional registrar Sandi Shillington said the outbreak appeared to be under control, with less than 10 students going to the clinic this morning.
Exams had got underway at the campus and students who were well were able to continue as usual.
Unwell students who wished to sit exams were able to do so in a separate building.
Those who were very unwell were being advised of the processes in place for impaired performance consideration or aegrotat, Dr Shillington said.
Three students attending exams reported feeling unwell this morning, but did not have gastroenteritis symptoms, she said.
Robust sanitation measures were in place both for the quarantine exam room and the surrounding building, to prevent any spread of the illness, and exam supervisors were also taking precautions to protect their health and that of others, Dr Shillington said.
Supplies of electrolytes, to keep those affected hydrated, had been replenished, and fresh water was being provided.
Additional medical clinics would be held in the halls of residence tonight and tomorrow.
It was not known what caused the outbreak, but samples had been sent for testing with results expected early next week.
