Two models of Rheem indoor gas water heater have been recalled due to the risk of fires or burns.
The outer jackets of the 275-litre heavy duty commercial gas heaters can exceed safe temperatures, increasing the risk of contact burns to people or fires to nearby combustible material, a notice issued by the company said.
It advised people to immediately remove any flammable objects stored against or near the heaters, and to contact their consumer line to arrange for an on-site modification.
The affected models are A621275NO and 621275NOZ, manufactured from July 1, 2008 until November 20, 2009.
