A ruptured gas main near Helensville, north of Auckland, has been contained and road closures have been lifted.
The main was accidentally ruptured by workmen repairing the Kaipara River bridge at the intersection of State Highway 16 and Mill Rd, east of Helensville, said a fire communications spokesman.
Access to and from Parakai was cut off completely.
Road closures have now been lifted but traffic is restricted to one lane crossing the Kaipara River bridge, immediately east of the Mill Road roundabout, as repairs are completed.
