Two Mongrel Mob prison inmates jailed for the attempted murder of another prisoner have had their convictions upheld.
Harley Vance Collier, 25, and Tiaki Lance Erueti Phillips, 23, were last November each sentenced to eight years' jail after being found guilty by a jury in the High Court at Wellington of cutting Ahmed Najim's throat.
Najim, 19, had been at Hawke's Bay Regional Prison only a few hours in October 2009 when Collier put him in a headlock while Phillips cut his throat with a weapon made from disposable razor blades.
Collier and Phillips protested their sentences to the Court of Appeal, claiming among other things that Najim was confused about their identity.
However, the court rejected their appeals and upheld their convictions.
