Wairoa Police have charged a 39-year-old Mongrel Mob gang member over the shooting incident at a rugby match in the town last month.
Joseph Gemmell, 39, gave himself up at the Wairoa Police station earlier today.
He has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and carrying a firearm for no proper purpose, and will appear in the Gisborne District Court tomorrow morning.
Four or five shots from a sawn off shotgun were fired over the heads of people at the rugby match in the incident.
Constable Mark Champion of Wairoa Police said Gemmell walked into Wairoa Police Station just before noon and handed himself in.
