A gang associate arrested on a string of dishonesty charges has escaped from the Upper Hutt police station.
Dallas Tani Clarke, 25, was being questioned by detectives about 6.30pm yesterday when he was left alone in an interview room.
He prised apart some of the steel bars on a window, squeezed through and took off.
Upper Hutt area commander Inspector Brett Kane said Clarke should not be approached. Though he had been previously convicted for dishonesty offences, police had information which led them to believe he could be dangerous.
Mr Kane said there would be an inquiry into the security of interview rooms at the station.
