A low carrying thunderstorms, wind and rain is racing towards New Zealand says a weather analyst.
WeatherWatch.co.nz has predicted a deepening low is headed towards New Zealand and many people will see a dramatic change in as soon as 12 hours.
The low will affect the whole nation and will bring gales and heavy rain to many regions, said weather analyst Philip Duncan.
Thunderstorms are also a possibility as warm, humid, air from the sub-tropics mixes with a colder, drier, south westerly change he said.
Rain which has covered Southland and the entire West Coast today, will spread into the North Island on Sunday morning before heading east.
The main rain band will result in heavy falls over northern and western facing regions, he said.
