The mild Spring weather is about to end with gale force winds forecast to batter Auckland, Wellington and Northland.
Metservice is forecasting the south and south-westerly flow to hit tonight and continue through tomorrow morning.
Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 120km an hour in some places.
Metservice forecaster Mark Pascoe said winds could cause damage to powerlines, roofs and trees, making driving dangerous in coastal areas such as Cape Kidnappers and Cape Palliser.
