Six new charges were laid against Steven Paul Smith, brother of the man who allegedly shot two police officers in Christchurch last week, when he reappeared in court today.
Two of them were joint charges with his brother Christopher Graeme Smith, of cultivating and possession of cannabis.
The other four charges were firearms-related, one of them being a joint charge of being in possession of a .22 bolt action rifle with scope and silencer except for some lawful, proper and sufficient purpose, the Christchurch Court News website reported.
Steven Smith, 31, unemployed, entered no pleas and he was remanded in custody to a post committal conference on August 10.
The original cannabis charge laid last week against Steven Smith was withdrawn.
Christopher Smith, a process worker, is accused of attempting to murder Senior Constable Bruce Lamb and Constable Mitchel Alatalo by shooting them when they visited the brothers' home in suburban Phillipstown on July 13.
Mr Lamb, a police dog handler, whose dog Gage was shot dead, was shot in the face and Mr Alatalo was shot in the thigh. Both men are now recovering at home.
