The funeral for Lucas Ward, the four-year-old Gisborne boy whose body was found on Thursday, will be held in Ruatoria tomorrow.
Lucas was missing for 10 days before his body was found by a senior surf lifesaver in the Waimata river.
A preliminary post-mortem showed he drowned, Gisborne police area commander Inspector Sam Aberahama said.
The results and a full report have been referred to the coroner, he said.
Mr Aberahama said police involved in the search would be attending Lucas' tangi in Ruatoria tomorrow.
A funeral service is being held at Hinekopeka Marae, Tikapa, Ruatoria at 11am before a memorial service at St Mary Star of the Sea at 3pm.
