KEY POINTS:
The theft of more than $700 from a church during a funeral service was"extremely low" and "very opportunistic", police have said.
Police said the money went missing during a funeral at Blenheim's St Andrew's Church, between two and 3pm last Thursday.
Constable Stagg said the church's office was open during the funeral but the money had been locked away in a drawer.
The key to the drawer was stored in a different location, however, and Stagg said finding it would: "take a bit of scouting around".
What's more, Ms Stagg said, simply finding the key wouldn't have been enough as the thief would have needed to know what is was for.
Blenheim police are yet to arrest anyone over the theft.
